Gipsee, was formed to provide practical solutions to make it safer for those
with food allergies and dietary restrictions to eat out at restaurants, schools,
cafeterias or, any place where prepared foods are served.
Over 25 million people in the US struggle every day to find safe eating options
considering their unique dietary restrictions and preferences, such as food
allergies, gluten-intolerances, vegetarian/vegan needs. People with such dietary
restrictions often find eating out to be an unpleasant, unwelcoming, and
sometimes a frightening experience.
Increasingly, many restaurants and eating places are disclosing allergen
information, typically on their websites by identifying the major food allergen
categories such as Dairy, Gluten, Eggs. In practicality, food allergies manifest
themselves in various combinations of food ingredients and often fall outside of
the realm of these ‘major’ categories. Gipsee was formed to simplify and
automate allergen identification by introducing an interactive element to the
process.
In simple terms, a consumer selects foods/ ingredients that they wish to avoid,
and the system instantly produces a list of menu items that may be safe for
consumption, given each consumers unique set of restrictions. The allergen
identification process not only identifies known food allergens but also
considers food derivatives and their potential allergenic properties*.
The founders of Gipsee, have many years of experience in the technology field,
and in the natural and organic food industry. They have been personally affected
with the difficulties associated with trying to find safe foods to eat outside
of the home, given dietary and food allergy restrictions in their immediate
family. |
